About

Creativity, Knowledge, Cities explores the contradictions at the heart of relationships between universities and the creative sector.

Held at Watershed, the Southwest’s leading film and digital media centre, the conference provides an opportunity to engage in critical dialogue with leading researchers, policymakers and practitioners while experiencing one of Bristol’s vibrant cultural scenes.

Creativity, Knowledge, Cities is organised by the Creative Economies Group, part of the Digital Cultures Research Centre at UWE Bristol.

The Creative Economies Group is a multi-disciplinary research team exploring the broad field of contemporary creative work. Drawn from backgrounds in art and design, economics, geography, media studies, organisational studies, and urban planning, the group researches:
– creative clusters, networks and resilient cultural ecologies
– value creation in creative production across organisations, networks and geographies
– alternative models for learning and working through creative practice
– culture-led development and creative placemaking
– the relationship between universities and the creative sector

The group builds on a range of recent work including The Creative Hubs report, commissioned by the British Council, Go West!, an exploration of Bristol’s Film and Television Industries, and larger projects such as Bristol and Bath by Design, and REACT.
